The PBY-5A Catalina was indeed used by the United States Coast Guard. It was a versatile flying boat primarily used for maritime patrol, search and rescue, and anti-submarine warfare during World War II. The Coast Guard operated a number of Catalinas as part of their air assets to conduct missions such as convoy escort, scouting for enemy submarines, and locating survivors of shipwrecks or downed aircraft.
