The MD-80 is a twin-engine, single-aisle jet airliner that was manufactured by McDonnell Douglas, a now-defunct American aerospace company. The MD-80 series includes various models, such as the MD-81, MD-82, MD-83, MD-87, and MD-88. These aircraft were widely used by airlines around the world, including several U.S. carriers.
However, it's worth noting that as of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, the MD-80 series had been gradually phased out of service by many airlines due to their older technology and less fuel-efficient engines. Some airlines, including American Airlines, retired their MD-80 fleet in favor of newer and more efficient aircraft like the Boeing 737. Nonetheless, it's always a good idea to check with the airline directly for the most up-to-date information on their fleet composition.
